from the ground up

From Dust Pottery was founded in early 2020, when a new home for potter, Shannon Barker, contained a sunroom that was dying to become a ceramics studio. Shannon began working with clay over a decade ago and quickly learned that it is a craft that requires much patience and diligence to master. Two qualities that did not come naturally to her. Despite the learning curve, Shannon fell in love with working with clay as well as the pieces of art that were born out of it. Particularly, she loved the rhythms of the process and how clay is just dirt, straight from the ground, and is capable of becoming just about anything imaginable. She is particularly in love with functional wheel thrown pieces that adorn the home with simple elegance. From Dust Pottery hopes to communicate the natural beauty of clay and the importance of the slowness of the craft in an ever fast-paced, industrialized world.

sustainability

From Dust Pottery is committed to taking care of the earth in every aspect of the business. We source our clay from High Water Clays in Asheville, North Carolina and also recycle any used clay at our home studio to ensure that as little clay as possible is wasted. We source used packing materials from neighbors and the community in order to reduce our impact. When boxes and packing material cannot be sourced from others, From Dust Pottery chooses only sustainable packing materials from Ecopacking. Our business cards are printed on all recycled paper from Jukebox. If you have any questions about our practices please use the contact form to reach us!
